Copier Repair

Best Business Products was out to General Beadle yesterday and fixed the lid for the copy machine.  If there are any further issues with the copy machine, please let me know directly through email.

The End/Beginning

Wow, what an experience.  I have learned a lot in (what seems to be) a short amount of time.  I started out with this project, sort of in the middle of the beginning.  I started my job after the start of the learning process, so I jumped into it full force not really knowing what to expect, or how it was going to affect me.  I tried at first to stay on schedule and then it sort of fell to the wayside, as my work took center stage over my training on 2.0.  Not any less important however.  I think that some of my favorite discoveries/exercises were the rss feeds and the YouTube ones.  I think that this has affected my lifelong learning goals as I now know that there are so many more tools out there to utilize and to bring forward in education and in my work as I grow professionally.  I think I was most surprised by some of these things being hard for me.  I have always been a technology driven person and technology has always come easy to me.  However…this is a whole new ball game.  It kind of made me feel old in a way. :)  I think the program was put together well.  However, I think that there could have been some more “required” training sessions on each of the programs.  Or at least maybe some time set aside every week for staff to come and get some help.  I did notice that the training sessions that I did go to, there wasn’t a lot of attendence at, but maybe I didn’t see all the training available either.  I would choose to participate in further discovery programs.  It was very insightful.

Audiobooks

I definitely found some titles that I would want to download and listen to.  Since my husband and I travel a lot back and forth across the state I think this would be a very useful tool to us.  Especially for him since he goes back once a month for ARMY Reserves.  I think that this will definitely be a tool that patrons will want to utilize more and more, especially some of the home-bound delivery people, if they were to have a MP3 player donated or loaned to them.  Hey they can move forward with technology as well. :)

Pod Casts

I have also used podcasts before in my studies and with my ipod.  I chose music for mommies as my podcast which is really cool.  It’s instrumental music which is really relaxing and makes you feel really cozy.  I did add this as a rss feed to my bloglines account.

I think there are a lot of useful things with podcasts.  Especially in education.  I used podcasts all the time when I was doing distance studies.  All of the lectures were podcasted so it felt like you were in the class room, which for me was easier than listening to audio feeds since I am a visual learner.

YouTube

I’ve used YouTube before, so I was familar with a lot of the features of this tool.  I chose this clip solely on content.  It’s interesting and fun to watch.  It has nothing to do with librarys or library content.  I have seen a couple of the library one’s that other staff members have put out for fun and I see how they could be useful.

I chose to look at the tool Yelp, which is a way to “find, review and talk about what’s great - and not so great” in different areas.  I looked up Rapid City.  It allows you to comment on different area attractions, restaraunts, hotels, etc.  It also allows you to rate those different places with a star rating.  I think that this would be helpful in a library setting especially with the visitor patrons who are looking for information on the area attractions.  I think it would be a very useful tool for the reference staff to utilize.

Zoho

I think I would really use this tool in everyday life.  Here at the library and in my position, it seems like we all have the same tools to use.  However, they are right, if Microsoft Office is null and void, this would definetly by something I would use.

Wiki & Wiki Sandbox

I checked out some of the wiki sites that were provided as part of this assignment.  I thought the Prinston one was the most interesting.  I think it’s cool that wikis allow you to change them without having to know HTML.

Also, in Wiki Sandbox, it is very cool that you can just add something in like that! Neat. :)

The development and delivery of library services through 2.0 is interresting and I think will play an important part in the library’s future.  I believe that the points that Michael Stephens make about the important traits of Librarian 2.0 are all true and that 2.0 libraries will create a place where users can go to access these services.  Librarians will have to embrace these changes in order to service the patrons instead of focusing on the current way of dealing with the patrons.  I also agree with Chip Nigles when he states that “libraries can benefit tremendously from understanding Web 2.0 and applying its principles to their work”…. it “is critical for the success of the library communityin a networked world.”

Tagging & del.icio.us

I can definetly see how these would be a useful tools in research.  They are not something that I would use as an everyday tools, but I do see the potential in them for bookmarking and research.
